is a career in the veterinarian field worth the time in college?

i want to be a veterinarian
but that would mean 8 years of college
assuming i even get accepted to one of the few veterinarian schools in america. (which i hear is more difficult to get into than medical school)

can anyone tell me how much money i would make if i chose to become a veterinarian opposed to being a pharmacist?
