Is a cardboard roll strong enough to use as a pedestal for a dining table?

I need to build a small dining room table (our space is so small that all the store-bought ones are too big). I'm thinking of just using a table round from Lowes for the top and a slightly smaller one for the bottom. The pedestal would just be a cardboard roll (one of the thick ones) attached with a small round piece cut to fit snugly in the cardboard roll. Will this be strong enough? Another option is to do basically the same thing, except use a 4X4 or 6X6 for the actual support and a cardboard roll to cover it.
