Is a 2002 Mazda Tribute LX 106k miles a good choice for a new driver? ?

Hey there, I'm leaning towards buying a 2002 Mazda Tribute LX V6 for $5,000 from someone I know. It has a clean history report, and runs great. It has about 106k miles on it. But I'm just starting to drive, and heard I should avoid SUV's, however this is a mini one + I don't have a tendency to speed.

Overall, think I should just purchase it?
