is $4,000 good price to buy 2005 Honda Shadow 750 Aero?

Hello, I am shopping for my first bike. A private seller on Craiglist is willing to sell me his 2005 Honda Shadow 750 Aero (3,600 miles) for $4,000.

Is this a good price? I see the brand new 2009 model is taged $5,600 in dealer show room.

Any comments is greatly appreciated.

4 grand looks like a good price based on Kelly blue book and NADA.

Mileage is very low though for a 2005. this bike is now 5 years old. If if has been ridden somewhat regularly - a few weekends a year, it's probably ok. If the miles were all put on in the first year and then it sat, I would beware.
It would have only needed the 600 mile service based on mileage, but there are several things that should be done biennially - specifically fluid replacements. If you buy the 2005 you should plan to have this done soon.

That said, the beauty of a new bike is that you absolutely know it's history. You will never be sure about a used bike. For instance - has the speedo been changed for one with lower mileage? This can happen.

With the small price differential, I think I'd be looking real hard at the new one.
