Is 2000 Mercury Cougar good first car?

Hi im thinking of getting a 2000 mercury cougar as my first car (im 16) i get my license in about a couple of months and was thinking about this car. does anyone know the gas mileage non highway, heard a problem about the sunroof is it big (i live in a snowy state), how much would it cost to insure what about the transmission it this baby a good car to get? i also take auto tech so i understand the tech talk feel free. ooh and im a girl if that makes a difference. thanks early
