Is 153,000 miles too much for a 1996 Jeep Cherokee Sport?

The price is a little high. Jeeps like that in SO CAL go for $1200.
My buddy has 286,000 miles on his 1994 Cherokee with an in-line 6. The only problems he has had was the ignition switch going out and the usual water pump and thermostat along with the radiator.....all easy to fix

I'm looking for my first car and I found a red 1996 Jeep Cherokee Sport for $2,100 with 153,000 miles and I want to know if that is too many miles and if so what kind of problems would it cause?

The mileage isn't the problem. It's how they were gathered. A 4 wheel drive jeep with that many miles could have different problems, mostly in the drive train area.Take a good look at the Transmission, transfer case and both differentials. If you're mechanically inclined, including some courses at a tech school, I would say go for it. Otherwise you might spend more time repairing it than driving it.
