...too expensive? and if i did it myself what tools are needed and is it a fairly easy job to do? rotors do not need any machining from what i saw
$100 is the charge for the parts and labor
 
Sounds like a good price. I have replaced brakes on my S10 and each vehicle is different to some extent. There are many specialty tools you must have to make the job somewhat easier but since sounds like you have disc brakes on the back (should be same as the front) basic tools are needed (pliers, socket set, brake cleaner, etc). I will say though changing brakes usually is worth setting the frustration aside and having a shop or trust worthy mechanic do the job for ya.

And if you do decide to tackle it yourself. When you get the job done make sure to pump the brake a few times to allow the brakes to adjust properly.
