ipod volume bar missing on iphone 3gs?

a couple of days ago my songs came out clear on my iphone and suddenly i couldn't hear the songs anymore? i figured out the problem but i don't know how to fix it .some sounds on my iphone still work like that voice recorded and i can listen to my ringtons except when trying to play music or play a game theres no sounds ...... i noticed that the slide bar on the ipod control disappears when i take out my earphone but when i connect it, it reappears . i tried rebooting my iphone and playing around with the earbud jackport but nothing happens.... please i need help ... i tried everything but if theres no hope then i might have to go to the apple store and exchange it for a new one... =(
