iPod Touch Jail Breaking?

Three things:
What dose jail-breaking do?
What are the pros/cons of jail breaking?
How do I keep all my Apps from prior jail-breaking as well as the warranty?
where is a place that tells me how to do all the stuff while keeping the warranty?
 
1. It removes the restrictions from the firmware (installs custom firmware) so that you can install whatever you want on it.
2. Pros: you can get what you want on the ipod (i.e. homebrew games, homebrew apps), and FREE UPDATES Cons: you void your apple warranty, it might mess up your ipod, and it will erase all your music (just resynch it)
3. You have to reinstall them from other sites (b/c the installation formats your ipod) and it will void your warranty UNLESS you reinstall apple's firmware.
