iPod Touch -- is the Youtube app flaky?

My experience with the iPod Touch's YOUTUBE app: No matter how strong the wi-fi signal, "some" YouTube videos play just fine, and others either stop after 1 or 2 seconds, or don't play at all. There doesn't appear to be a pattern, or common thread between the "will plays" and the "won't plays". Can it be a video format/file size issue? I thought YouTube converted all submissions to the same format. Does anyone else have similar experience with YouTube on the iPod Touch? Thanks
