Ipod Touch 3g question! jailbreak help!?

Ok, i have a Ipod touch 3g, 4.0.2 software. I dont have jailbreak yet, so im trying to downgrade my i pod touch to a 4.0 software because 4.0.2 dosnet let you jailbreak. I have downloaded the 4.0 IPSW restore, I Held the shift key and right clicked on the restore and when i killed the 4.0 software it came up with a error saying "The Ipod could not be restored because the firmware file is not compatible. Please help!!!! 5 stars
