Me and my two sisters are planning to get on a family plan with AT&T. Unfortunately, all the decent phones out there require a 30$/month data plan. Am I able to buy an iPhone for myself and 2 other 3G smartphones from ebay and get free phones from AT&T and put our simcards in them? Some people say you can, At&t tells me they will bill me as soon as i do. Does anyone have a clear concise answer either based on personal experience or from friends?
I know they can find out what phones you have, but to get billed for 3 smartphones would be a tad bit expensive.

I want to get the iphone without the data because you can access most of the data features through wifi for free. Especially if its jailbroken and unlocked
