Iphone & Itouch (3rd gen)?

Hey all, so im thinking of getting an Itouch mainly, im not a big cellphone user, and i know i would be missing out on the camera which sucks, but is not a biggie. But i mainly want to know, is the Itouch worth it? Can i run all the same apps and things like that, once its paid for i don't have to have any "plan" with it or any BS correct? (i know its a dumb question, but i want to make sure). I know it has wifi and bluetooth so if im in a hotspot or whatever i can download music or apps or wtf ever, but it only has wifi and isn't through cellphone net connect? I'm sorry if these are some simplistic questions, but first time buying something like this and i want to make sure, i would probably buy the Iphone 3g if i was sure i could handle the 2-year contract, but at the moment i don't think i would be able to. So minus the lack of calling, is the Itouch pretty much the same thing (without paying monthly for calls of course) in terms of apps hardware and net access and things. Thanks for any answers and please dont hate on me, i have done research but its sometimes just easier to ask. And i turn to you all since i dont know anyone with a itouch. Thank you
