iPhone...coming to Verizon?

Well, apparently, Apple is seriously looking at Verizon's 4G network which is expected to roll out in 25 to 30 markets sometime in 2010.

Apple has never really considered making a CDMA version of the popular semi-smartphone; the iPhone according to Ivan Steinberg (VZW CEO). Apple will ONLY consider doing business with Verizon Wireless under 4G spectrum, which will be rolled out by Verizon 1st...before any other carrier. That's why Apple is all over it! Verizon Wireless will cover nearly the entire United States with 4G by the middle of 2015.

AT&T still has an exclusive contract with Apple which is valid until 2010...but is expected to be extended until 2011.

The iPhone on a GSM based platform/technology has a larger range of customers effected. CDMA is limited to the U.S. and multiple international carriers. CDMA technology is expanding quickly and is expected to be in every country (in some form) by 2020.

AT&T can keep the iphone. I would not pay for that data plan. I dont think the phone is that great anyway. The touch is cool though, and no data plan for that.

Probably so. From what I heard, part of the reason that Apple went with AT&T instead of Verizon is that they wanted too much control, and Verizon wasn't having it.

I think so too. Tons of people would probably go for this phone. I just cant justify the data plan, thats the biggest thing that would hold me back from getting it.

I would say a control issue is a big issue for both parties. So this would have to be worked out. And Verizon may end up with a crippled Ipod, Touch, Phone thing.

I'm wondering if the iPhone will be one of the first phones to use LTE on the Verizon/Alltel network next year...

after playing with an iphone, reading about it
then getting an omnia with winmo

att acan keep the iphone, i wouldnt have one.
no pic messageing, well the 3gs can
not customizable
strict regs on development by apple, they have to approve apps

meh, another reason i dont like anything by apple

I think I agree. Verizon phones have enjoyed the ability to pic message for years. The fact that iphones are finally just getting this, and so many iphone users are proud and excited, seems a little ridiculous. However, the fact that the ATT network is not yet ready to allow these phones to function sending media messages - although it soon will be - could score points for Verizon, who is on top of this issue.
To any iphone user: is the camera really much more preferable to anything you'd see on a verizon cameraphone?

As for the control part... I think Verizon would be very careful about letting the iphone become a Verizon phone. For most of its phones, Verizon always likes to make sure all applications come through Verizon/GetItNow, and makes money off of this. The apple iphone setup, where users can get all sorts of free and paid apps and games and tools off of itunes directly, would cut out this entire business, and I think Verizon would be hesitant to allow it. Or have we already heard of any compromises they might make?
