iphone 3g actvation on pay and go?

ive been trying to get my pay and go iphone 3G to work for 3 days now and its doing my nut lol. it constanly says waiting for activation this may take some time. how do i fix it. ive changed all my setings to pay and go (im on o2) and it still doesnt work. any answers apretiated thanks
