I have had some limited success in the pool but as soon as I get out the pain comes back. Also our pool is not heated and will be no good in winter. So I thought this may give me some relief from lower back pain and possibly other benefits. Has anyone else tried one? I can get a good one for about $170 Australian dollars. The other thing I saw while doing some research was a new procedure called X stop. Has anyone had that done? It may be introduced here soon if it is successful elsewhere. Some feedback would be great. Allan

Personally I can only do water traction... before I had a Pain Clinic they tried inversion and it screwed up my back worse..

Though my sister-in-law has one and it helps her... check with you doctor see if you can get referred to a good PT that has one you can try out first before investing anything..

Also having the PT there to correct the situation in case anything goes wrong is an absolute necessity the first time you explore any treatment.

Hi,
I live in Japan where things like inversion tables have a way to go before they will become readily available. I imported mine from the USA, and used it on a regular basis. Sad to say the traction an inverted position offers did not result in any significant improvement. I still believe in them, however. I've seen several orthopedic physicians and every one of them had traction units designed for exactly what reversion tables do. The difference was that the patient reclines on a table in a horizontal position, and harnesses are applied to both the upper and lower portions of the body. Then, streeeeech. I like the inversion tables better. Too bad mine didn't work for me. I finally underwent a spinal fusion, and now I am really miserable. The surgery was done in good faith, but I - like the dozens upon dozens of failed fusion patients - have a back condition that has gotten worse instead of better.
Be advised Allan, DO NOT undergo a spinal fusion until things become so bad that no other alternative is available. Read some of the other blogs. What they have to say is true almost to the point of possibly ruling that spinal fusions are illegal surgical procedures.

. Anyway, nice chatting with you. Good luck. Mike

Allan:

I'd be interested in hearing more about the X Stop procedure. I have spinal stenosis of the neck and lurabar regions. I use pool therapy which while Im doing is great but out of the pool I go back to being in pain. I looked into an inversion table but was hesitant about if it really worked.
what research have you dont regarding the X-Stop procedure. Do you know of clinical trials on long term outcomes etx. Look forward to hearing more about it.
