Interviewed but not asked for references?

I recently interviewed for my 'dream job'. The lady was very impressed and said she would definitely tell her boss that we had a good interview. She said there were others to be interviewed and that I should hear something in about a week.

Question: I put 'REFERENCES AVAILABLE UPON REQUEST' on my resume'. Is it a bad sign that this new company hasn't asked for my references, or will they just contact the HR departments of my previous employers??
