internet on palm treo for verizon?

So I'm doing some research on a palm treo and I realize you don't have to have a data plan to have one. So i just have a couple of questions...

1) while i'm at home or something can I have it on my wifi like all the time? so if i leave the house when i come back in range will it automatically connect?

2) is there a way i can turn off the internet so if its not connected with wifi it won't get on the internet and use the verizon internet?

Also if you have any other hints/tips, they'd be much appreciated. Thanks.
 
Verizon has become less willing to allow smartphone class devices without a data plan. If the Treo were already on a line without data Verizon would continue to allow it but can not guarantee they will let you make a new activation without data. If they will then it should be a matter of asking for a data block for your phone to insure it cannot pull any over Verizon's network.
