Ok, i'm a little new to this but i'll start by explaining whats been happening to me and my symptoms. So, 6 months ago i started having breathing problems, not short of breath but more like needing to keep taking deep breaths basically i was sighing and yawning all day. i went to see my doctor and he told me it was anxiety. Then a month later i noticed a sore throat but it isn't like a normal sore throat because it doesn't hurt to swallow and it just feels raw or burnt just behind the uvula almost up into my nasal passage. After this went on for a couple of weeks i went back to my doctor and since then ive been tested for glandular fever and strep which came back negative. I've also had a cbc and a lot of other bloodwork done which all came back negative or normal. I've also been tried on nasal steroid sprays, antihistamines and antibiotics with no relief. My doctor then asked if i get heartburn which i do now and then so he tried me on Lansoprazole 30mg once a day but that also provided no relief. So i got referred to an ENT Specialist and he checked my throat and nasal passage with a scope and he told me there was no problems and he suspected Acid reflux was causing this. I was then put on Lansoprazole 15mg Twice a day which hasn't worked either. I also have another weird symptom which is an odor that seems to be coming from my throat and rises up into my nasal passage and it smells strange like off milk or something, the smell usually is worse after eating but can crop up at any time (could this be sinus related, i don't know). I'm sort of going to answer my own question here but yeasterday i had an endoscopy which showed inflamation of the esophagus and was diagnosed with oesophagitis. But my main questions are why wouldn't my throat be sore lower down as well if it was acid causing it? And what could be the cause of the bad smell? And wouldn't taking lansoprazole stop these symptoms if it were acid? I'm sorry this post has been so long but i'm just worried thats all and i want to get some answers and i don't know where to turn next. Thank you for your replis in advance. Shane

No breathing problems, just incessant burning back and front and worse in evening just before I go to bed. I am on a non fat, alcohol, non chocolate or spicy food diet. At the moment I am trying not to talk as it aggravates it all!!

Have you had any tests for Acid Reflux eg. endoscopy, barium swallow, PH test etc?
I had an endoscopy and was suprised when he told me i have Oesophagitis (GERD) Although it's a very mild inflamation the doc told me it can cause chest pains, back pains, Burning Upper stomach just under diaphram, sore throats, coughing, over production of mucus, burning eyes, headaches and the list goes on and on. So i wouldn't be suprised at all if your esophagus is inflammed also. Although it can be quite serious it is treatable and complications are RARE. e.g if someone develops esophagus cancer 90% of the time a problem called Barretts Esophagus has developed first which also is RARE so therefore the odRAB need to be beaten twice which is highly unlikely! So i would definately get an endoscopy done but try and relax because you will be ok and stress makes it worse as i have found out after worrying about cancer for 5 months!

Not taking anything like that. And my stomach seems to have a mind of it's own, sometimes constipated sometimes diarrhoea sometimes normal. Sorry I know it's not the nicest thing to talk about lol. I'm desperate too it's doing my head in lol because there is so many possible causes of acid reflux. I mean I don't even know if it is acid, could be bile or could be that I don't have enough acid in my stomach. How long have you been experiencing symptoms? Have you had an endoscopy?

Thank you Sahne. I do not see the ENT guy until Oct 5th !!! and the endosopy will go from there !! Too long a time. May go privately and then you can see them in a week !! Hope you are coping with yours.

The doctor says I have acid reflux after 3 months of heart testing!! I have an inflamed back and upper chest and it goes into spasms somtimes similar to an angina attack. I take a nitro spray when that happens. Anyone got similar symptoms to me???

Thank you Shane.
No my appointment with the ENT specialist is on Oct 5th and then the endoscopy will be after that!! The only way to get it quicker is a private consultation and I can see him in a week!!
Hope they sort it and hope you are coping with yours. Thanks.

I've had this LPR/GERD crap for over 10 yrs and finally found a Dr. that said acid would go to your eyeballs and I believe him. Seems the right side of my nose (really behind my nose) always has thick mucus and lots of PND. Have gone the Allergy/Asthma, Gastro Spec, ENT Spec, Surgeons way over and over. Taken every med known to man and I still have the feeling you describe. Some days are better than others but then there are the weeks & months that I can't do anything without clearing my throat, sniffle and cough. My side and ribs are hurting right now just from all the sniffle and coughing I've been doing for weeks now. Diet, bending, lifting or plain shiffting positions can set mine off. I've given up and do and eat what I want because seems there's no end. Drinking lots of water and chewing gum can help some. I wish you the best of luck!

i do sometimes get chest and back pains. Once i woke up at 3am and thought i was having a heart attack!....Doctors told me it was acid. Theres so many symptoms for acid reflux. But at the moment its the sore throat thats bothering me!! I hate GERD lol

No problem. I'm back at the doctors tonight to tell him his meRAB don't work and something else neeRAB to be tried. I don't want these symptoms forever haha. I think that you have the same condition as me but just slightly different symptoms. Try looking up silent reflux. Don't google too much though, I made that mistake because no matter what problems you have it seems to link them to cancer, scared the hell out of me lol. I stick to listening to professionals that have had years of medical training. Also don't try and diagnose yourself.... It's a bad move trust me. Try and get a lot of possible answers and ask your doctor such as.. Could it be acid reflux, could it be an infection such as h.pylori and so on. You deserve answers so don't stop until you get them. ENT and then an Endoscopy is a great place to start but your ENT might suggest something else. I'll let you know how I get on tonight.

Thanks for the reply. I was beginning to think I was the only one. Are you on ppi's? And do they help you any? Because I might as well be taking a sugar pill because they haven't helped my symptoms. I'm going back to the Docs 2morrow to tell him that his meRAB don't work and he neeRAB to try something else. I'm starting to think it might be bile reflux. Anyway thanks for posting and I'll let u know what my doctor says 2morrow!

I have exactly the same problem, your gut functioning normally? you've had something like Florastor? I do not know what to do about it, I'm desperate
