Something that is really horror. I like guessing if someone will survive or not. I don't remember the books that I have read but one that I really enjoyed was "Soulless" by Christopher Golden. I read it last year and enjoyed it even though zombies aren't my favorite things in the world.
It can be about anything; zombies, murders, psychopaths, ghosts, fallen angels anything really but vampires.
Also, if you recommend books that involve the above and also include romance, that would be wonderful.
No Stephen King novels, please. I know his work is spectacular.
