Is the 'designer' term merely a way of getting around various Constitutional issues with teaching religion as science, or do you honestly believe there is some sort of categorical difference between deity and designer?
If natural, then by what means did the designer itself arise, and why would that natural mechanism not be sufficient to be invoked for the origin of life on Earth too?
