Insulin resistance (a question for those with it, doctors/nurses)?

Hi everyone. I am female, 23 years old, 5'2 and about 200 pounds. I have always struggled with my weight, primarily because I eat when I am stressed or agitated, which I feel is most of the time.

Anyway, I was wondering if anyone knowledgeable could tell me about insulin resistance. I was researching my lack of period (have never been regular but I noticed it stops coming when my weight reaches a certain point) and insulin resistance came up. I have many of the symptoms:

-being overweight, lack of period

-ACNE...it's like I'm a teenage boy. I get a lot of cystic acne and they leave redmarks for a long, long time.

-I've been growing hair on my chin, in a line by my belly button and (gross) sometimes on my boobs

-I have a sometimes itchy, dark patch on the back of my neck. At first I thought it was a skin condition but I've had it for about 3 years and it's still there. It stings when I put rubbing alcohol on it.

-My inner thighs also have dark patches on them.

Do you think that I'm insulin resistant? What can I do about all of this? I don't even know how to bring this up with my doctor because I'm scared she'll think I'm trying to convince myself I have something. You know what I mean? Do I just go in there and say, "I think I'm insulin resistant?"

I have gotten down to a healthy weight before, maintaining it for about 3 years and this past time, less than one year. I did not fall for fad diets and I did it the healthy way by eating well and exercising everyday. I noticed then that my period came back and I felt better but I still had acne, still had the neck patch. Will these symptoms (especially the acne and the dark patches) go away if I'm put on medication and I start being more healthy?
