instant messegeing

I have cricket in houston (by the way it works great!) I see on the lituture in the box it says that if you are not near a computer you can enjoy unlimted instant messeging. Does anyone know how this works, or how to set it up?

im on cell phones = text messages to short codes (for the most part) set it up with your aim account or whatever service you use.
