Since I've been receiving numerous PMs regarding my progress I've decided to convert this post to TomTom installation diary. I'll stick with it to the very end - either getting it to work properly or returning TT and BT GPS back to the manufacturer (or selling it off EBay depends on the time I'll spend swimming the upstream.
So here the update as of 2/15/2007.
So lets get started:
The set up - unlocked Nokia E61, 2Gb Corsair miniSD, Dell Latitude D620, Nokia LD-3W BT GPS
TomTom 6 US software DVD purchased from mobileplanet.com - legit shop with somewhat slow delivery (10 business days)
Installed TT to my laptop, started an application TomTom Home - connected the phone via USB cable (mode break down below)
PC Suite - device is not recognized by TT Home
Data Transfer - the SD card being recognized
IP Passthrough - device is not recognized by TT Home
Conclusion use data transfer mode.
After that TT still doesn't like that and doesn't allow me to install anything on it.
I am pissed and call Tech Support (yeah, right). The guy informs me that first I have to install TT on my SD card (using card reader) and then simply insert it to my phone and installation will pick up from there. Great news I am excited except the fact that the card reader is at home and I'll have to wait.
Got home, plugged the card in to the reader and nothing happened. TT recognized the card and asked to assign a device type to it - I've picked Symbian 3rd Edition Mobile Device. After that I suppose to pick an app from the list to be installed to the phone, no matter what I pick it says "The application is not supported by your TomTom device". How nice of them. !@#$%
Need more help - I post here and send some PM to people who seem to be using this monster TT6 thing.. Get good reply, especially from zeze. He send a file to copy to the card, I did but once inserted the app was trying to install itself. During the installation it asked for maps (which were not included in the file). Without the maps installation could not be completed. Also you can get maps from the DVD but it needs to be activated, which requires device code, which will be displayed once the application was installed, which needs maps, which needs to be activated......You get the idea. So no good here either.
!@#$%
Armed with the card reader I am calling Tech Support again.
This time they didn't get away too easy, He pointed out how to get my card to be recognized by TT home
Select Symbian UIQ 3rd generation mobile device
then one of the app becomes selectable for installation.
install the app, voice and a map (had to skip activation).
plugged into the phone and see it installed. Once clicked on it got an error "Application cannot be run due to security....." Crap! The tech tells me to reformat the card and this time install only the app without the maps and voice. Great!! I do that insert the card, at which point I am informed that the installation cannot continue .... At which point the tech informs me that he will have to call me back with the specialist on the line tomorrow (today) at 8:30. I am still waiting to hear back from them.
That's it folks - after my last error my SD card became totally unusable, cannot be formated, files deleted and such. I've submitted RMA to newegg.com and will be continuing with my saga once the replacement is here.
PS
2Gb cards are on sale for $16.99.
