Installing dish away from residence

I've just purchased a shiny new HDTV and am looking at subscribing to BEV. The only problem is that there is NO line of sight available directly from where I live. I would need to have a line run probably 150ft to the same tree that my neighbour has his BEV dish mounted on (we're both on the same property).

Does anyone have any horror (or success) stories in a situation like this? Is it likely I would be charged more because of this? Any feedback is appreciated.
 
Correction... I just measured it and boy was I off... it could be 300ft away in order to get line of sight :o

Is it even going to be worth it for me to try??
 
Wow 300' thats quite some distance.

My suggestion would be to buy some RG11 cable and run that from the tree to the house. As barter says Dish Pro might be the best way to go, I would get a Dish Pro Plus LNBF then you would need just one line from the Dish to the house and depending on which receiver you get from Express Vu you would need install a DPP separator behind the receiver. On the plus side, RG11 would work without any worries at all and with DPP you should be good to go.

Express Vu installers should NEVER instal a Dish on a tree, it is against all their rules.
 
The only problem with tree installs, is as the tree grows, you may have to re-aim
Hopefully it is a big tree too, as the tree swaying in the wind would cause issues too
Is there any way you could install a post somewhere closer than the 300' ?
 
I have to assume that my neighbour (who has lived here for over 20 years) must have had an installer check the whole place out... why else would he have installed it 20 feet up a tree? The trees are one issue... the other is that I am VERY close to a mountain that is also in the way depending on where you are... will a BEV installer come out and check things out without charging me a ton of money? That would obviously be the easiest route to find out if it's worth me getting BEV or not. I really don't want to have to be stuck with Shaw cable :(
 
Teddy2k, would you get a line of sight with an antenna tower, such as a 20 to 40 footer? Is that out of the question? If so, you need to forget about Satellite and go with CATV. Also, putting a dish or antenna on a living organism like a tree means you'll have to be reaiming it about two or three times a year. :rolleyes:

Go ahead and book your installation, however if the only place is the distant tree, the installer should tell you to install some cables to it and he would return.

As I say, officially NO installations should ever be done by an approved installer on a tree.

Express Vu will not charge you if you book an installation, they may charge you if you ask for a site survey.
