So I have a '97 Ford Escort that I'm trying to install front brake pads on. The new pads are identical to the old ones so they are the correct pads. I removed the wheel, removed the caliper, and removed the old pads. This car uses guide bars to hold the pads in place so I have the new pads in the caliper and the piston retracted as far as it will go. When I try to fit the caliper w/pads over the rotor it seems like the caliper with pads is too fat to fit over the rotor. It will not fit over the rotor and the holes for the bolts to hold the caliper on will not line up. What am I doing wrong?
