I am 47 years old. I have had an intermittent inspiratory wheeze now for 8 months. It's heard mainly in my throat and upper airway. I have GERD and Barrett's Esophagus. I have been seen by a pulmonologist, an ENT and an allergist and every thing has checked out ok so far, but the can't tell me what it is. I just keep getting sent to another doctor. Is this from my Gerd? I take Omeprazole. How worried should I be? My mother has Pulmonary Fibrosis, so it is scary to hear a wheeze. Can someone help me with this?

I have this wheeze when I have attacks. Mine sounRAB like a rattling sound though. Only on inspiration.

Before I was diagnosed with reflux and placed on a PPI three years ago (which completely eliminated all symptoms), I did not have heartburn, but I did have a wheeze-ing and clogged ears which I attributed to severe allergies and was even prescribed Singulair for a while.

Once I was diagnosed with reflux and placed on a PPI, the ear congestion and wheezing went away. I now think the acid was probably getting into places it should not have been into and causing irritation and asthma-like symptoms.
