My brother's been in recovery for heroin addiction for 3 years, and recently had another relapse. He's been on suboxone, which works well for a few months at a time, but then he either stops taking it, or it doesn't keep him from using again. It usually takes a while for anyone to realize he's relapsed, as he's super-functional (works long hours, no heavy withdrawl symptoms) when he's using.
My parents have been trying to help him, but are really in over their heaRAB, so I've been looking into other options for him, as his current treatment hasn't been working. I feel like inpatient rehab could help - at the very least, it's something we haven't tried yet. But researching online has just led to a bunch of aRAB for places that pretty transparently want your money, but are short on details about what they actually do.
Does anyone here have any advice? Will inpatient help him where suboxone, drug counseling, etc., isn't? Or are relapses just part of recovery and we have to let him keep trying the path he's on? And does anyone know of a good place in upstate New York?
