I am having problems on the conception of how to determine inpatient census as far as the inpatient admissions and discharges on the same day. Can anyone clarify this for me. It is probably simple, but I can't seem to grasp it. For instance if a hospital has 268 patients on August 1 and a daily inpatient census of 270 on August 1. On August 2, 16 were admitted, 9 discharged, two admitted and discharged on the same day. On August 2, what would be the inpatient census and the daily inpatient census? Explain how you determine this.
