Injured Tendon in Palm of Hand?

Around five years ago, I deeply injured the palm of my hand (I cut it open via leaning on a defective porcelain door knob, which then proceeded to break). I immediately went and received 5 stitches, etc, and it seemed to heal a little slowly but effectively. For the following year or so I did have a tender hand, but doctors said that this was perfectly normal. However, the tenderness has persisted (it has gone down a bit, but still is a little sensitive, and hurts a bit when leaning on even a blunt/rounded edge such as an armrest, etc), and especially lately I have been noticing almost a little bit of pain which leaves my fore-arm slightly numb, the palm sore, and a dullness in my "funny bone" portion of my elbow. Because I don't have any health insurance, I'm not at much obligation to see a doctor (thankfully it is my NON dominant hand), but I was wondering---- is it possible that this could be something serious that should be re-opened and looked at via surgery, etc, or is it just a nicked tendon that will never fully heal? I know that the doctor is the best bet, but I wanted to come here first. Thank you all....
