While I was hiking last week, I picked up my friend to carry her across a small muddy spot (my boots were water proof, hers were not). Ive picked up many people several times without incident but I think that I lifted improperly and put the pressure on my back.
Now my lower back is somewhat sore... not excrutiating, but annoying. In fact, Ive felt this type of soreness before but it usually goes away pretty quickly... but this time its been here for almost a week. I have a three-day backpacking trip coming up that will be nearly impossible to cancel so im really trying to stick with it. As of now, it is still just a soreness; im not too worried about pain but I do not want to exacerbate the problem after carrying 40 pounds on my back for three days.
Im hoping that it wont be too bad on my back since 1) my backpack has waist straps which will take most of the pressure off of my back and put it onto my hips and 2) I got the injury by carrying someone in my arms (on my front) and am thinking putting something on my back wont aggravate it as much. Then again, I dont really know what im talking about!
Im going to start looking up stretches I can do, but what else can be done to "heal" my back before my trip in a few days? Im thinking about sleeping on the floor tonight instead of my usual air-mattress.
