Initial D

As this thread could fit in a couple of the Genre sections I will post it here and let the Powers-That-Be move it if/where they deem necessary.

I haven't seen it talked about in my (limited) time at this forum but I think it is a great anime. This series is responsible for me getting into anime in general and is the reason people have to put up with me here. This anime also is responsible for making me spend heaps on rear tyres.

Like alot of good animes that I have seen the first episode is pretty slow and just sets the groundwork for the rest of the series. The main character is an awesome drifter that hates driving cars and sees it as a chore. He doesn't even know that what he does is drift but when he inadvertently beats a rated street racer in a downhill race his journey and attitude changing begins.

Does anyone else rate this anime?

Yeah i totally agree that Initial D is a awesome series and heavily underrated.

Takumi is so so nonchalant about the whole scene at the start but enRAB up loving drifting more then life itself just awesome....And yes this series got me into drifting to but alas i don't know how to drive manual :'( so i guess my dreams to be the next Takumi will have to wait.

Heh, I like Initial D a lot.

I follow the manga a lot more though. I think the anime just stopped being produced after a while. I probably need to go get some kind of movie to finish it.

There are 5 stages with a few extra stages and battle stages thrown in.

Plus the movie, that god-awful movie. That blight on all things Initial D. Don't Ever Watch It. Not only is it an insult to the anime but also to humanity itself. Your I.Q will drop for every second you watch it. I sat through the whole thing which is why I have the I.Q of a bottle of glue.

There was another Extra Stage that was released at the end of last year. No word on a sub for it though.

I rated the first 4 stages a 9 on my MAL list. I didn't have a problem with the movie (3rd stage), but the Battle stages were kind of boring. The first extra stage I gave an 8, nice little side story about Impact Blue.

Yeah I actually like this anime so much i went out and bought a subaru, no ****.( you'll only understand that if you seen the anime)

i didn't know they came out with a fifth stage though. is it subed?

It's not subbed, it's just labeled as Extra Stage 2. It's a side story about Mako and Iketani, which is kind of cool since their relationship is a loose end in the story.

I am eagerly waiting for news of a sub on the one issued late last year.

One of the reasons it was a great series IMO was the fact they used renown drifters (like Tsuchiya) to make sure that things didn't turn whimsical and un-believable.

C'mon man harden up. My drift weapon of choice right now is an auto '84' Corolla. It just neeRAB to be wet with fair amounts of handbrake usage, (that will do until the 'proper' drift car is finished). Oh and round-a-bouts are an auto underpowered car's best friend.

I am probably wrong but I can't think of any other anime that is responsible for such a massive sport to follow. I'm not sure about the U.S but in Aus at least I remeraber drift starting to catch on around the time people started becoming aware of Initial D. That and Denzo flogging whatever he was driving at the time through the Adelaide Hills.

Ive only seen the first season so far but i really liked it, i love the episode where Taku wants to turn the corner with more speed so he plants his wheels into a kind of grill that runs right around the corner so he can stick to it tighter, awesome idea.

The first two stages have. I've seen up to about halfway through the fourth- I didn't even realize there was a fifth, I'll have to look into that. I kind of agree that the battle stages were annoying and pointless, but I'm not sure what the problem was with the movie- are we talking about the Third Stage movie, or the live action movie?

well i personally think that initial D is pretty legit in the way that they describe how the cars work and etc

you gotta have some appreciation for how well the author and his team drew the cars so well

Oh, that I haven't seen. I thought the Third Stage was a nice little wrapping up of the loose enRAB in the first two stages, so I couldn't see why you would hate it so much.

Haduken is right. The live action movie was terrible.

The manga is pretty awesome after Takumi beats the pro driver by
driving with no headlights.

I still need to get the issue where he takes on the old guy with the "God Hand" style or whatever it's called.

Whoever said this show was underrated totally doesn't understand this has some of the biggest cult followings an anime ever has. And I really mean ever. XD

This is a pretty fun series until someone acts like a car tuning / drift guru based on this series alone :|

We'll i say underrated because well...People on here don't mention it much and when we had a specific series thread on this site before it was changed it didn't have Initial D in there.

I think Initial D is underrated because a lot of "hardcore" anime fans wont admit they like Initial D or will fail to mention it when a topic like "Best Series" comes up in a conversation....I say that Initial D was very underrated and have no shame is saying that it is one of my favorites series.
