My husband and I visited the British Museum last July and I'm trying to figure out what is what in my photos. I have a photo of a black granite owl standing near an open stone tomb. The owl is missing an iris in its left eye. I believe this is in the Egyptian collection. Does anyone have information about what this owl is or its significance? Many thanks.

i have no idea, but i can tell u why the iris is probably missing if that helps. when people made sculptors back then, they would use some sort of precious gem for the eyes to make it look as realistic as possible. these statues/sculptors/carvings, etc. were often for the emperor. egypt was attacked several times and not only that, but anyone who could get their hands on these gems would steal them and they have gone missing.
