Infected insect bite

Hello everyone.

Just a quick question. I got bitten about 12-14 days ago which led to a nasty infection above my elbow. I have seen a doctor 3 days ago which put me on anti biotics. These have cleared the infection up quite quickly (There is still some there). The wound is quite deep but one side of it there is a little bubble of hardened yellow pus. I cant get it out with tweezers and its pretty nasty, im just seeking assurance that this will come out when the infection has gone as it could hinder the wound healing.

Thanx in advance,

Chris

Hi..you could go back to the doctor and have it lanced to be removed. Be careful with the pus since it could be staph and it's highly contagious.

Have you got the bite covered? One option which was introduced to my by a dermatologist is DuoDerm Extra Thin. It's a covering you leave on for around 3 days. No air can get at the wound, but it will allow the scab, etc to remain soft and the pus or exudate to seep out. It's an amazing invention!!

You can purchase them at a specialty store that's for health-related /surgical related items that medical facilities would use. They come in a variety of sizes. I purchase a bigger patch and cut it to fit the needs. It MUST be cut much larger than the wound to allow the "stuff" to come out.
It can be gross...but it will help in healing.

Thank you for the reply.

The ball of pus has literally just come out in the bath, it was hardened and big. It has left me with a hole in my arm, im hoping now that with continued antibiotics this will heal over and not be eaten away any more?

Unfortunately my doctors arent open on weekends and i have just moved to uni so need to find a new one there.

Also im using these see through covers for the wound. They appear tight but have let it seep and are keeping it clean so hopefully it can sort itself out. I just didnt know an infection left a gaping hole?

Thanks again,

Chris
