Increase payload capacity? 98 Chevrolet 2500 (regular bed 3/4 ton 4WD)?

I want to be able to carry a pallet of concrete (3400 lbs) in bed of my truck. Different people have said it will handle it now. Doesn't sound right, payload 3/4 ton. Regular bed, load directly over back axle. 4 WD, 8 lug, work truck.
Ideas? Suggestions? Thanks
Found Standard Payload 5042 lbs, that's not GVWR, so what's payload? 5042 lbs or 3/4 ton?
 
Go for air bags...Then you can air up the bags for a bigger payload and deflate them when you are not...
