Incorrectly backed up Tungsten T data need to install on new computer xp

life sucks:/

Please help! I have a Tungsten T handheld. I incorrectly backed up desktop 4.1.1. personal file data on my PC (Win xp) so in fact have several megabytes of data locked into the file as it was - which I cut and pasted into an external drive (thinking I would be able to import into a new installation of desktop 4.1.1. into my new hard drive - still xp). In fact the data was not saved as aba. etc.

Unfortunately during this interim all the data on my handheld was lost and I have done a hard reset so cannot backup the new installation of desktop with any handheld data.

I have now installed desktop 4.1.1 on my new hard disk. How can I get the data into the newly installed desktop program? I have tried opening the actual user personal data file to install one by one the addresses and contacts but there is virtually nothing there in an importable format. The "backup" file is big so the data must be in there but again I can't get it all. Can anyone help me to crack this problem? Maybe it's simpler than I think and I hav esomewhere missed the obvious........it's 3 weeks that I have tried and retried. Many thanks!

all the contents of ur palm should be backed up to C:/program files/palm/username if I remember correctly, just backing up the /palm folder and restoring it should allow u to get everything back.

if not then u might be able to use an undelete utility :) to get everything back on ur harddrive.

I read your post thanks. I have a large backup file. How do I restore that data to the handheld or the desktop? How do I use an undelete utility? What is that

if u did backup the C:/program files/palm folder you may be able to just overwrite it with the backup or you can overwrite the username folder with the backup username folder which would be better, then HARD Reset your Tungsten T and hotsync it and when asked to restore let it do so. Before you overwrite the main palm folder and or username folder inside it where all ur items remain for that user, u can make a backup copy of it first just in case. Also exit palm desktop and te hotsync manager and anything related to the palm desktop, etc.. before doing the overwrite.

As for the un-delte utilites - everytime u empty the trash can it's still on your computer, all windows does is set a bit or so on that data to let it know that it's available space, so the more u use the harddisk after deleting something, the more likely it will be overwritten.

UnDelete utilities let you un-delete that file and return it to it's original state. :) u should Yahoo(search.yahoo.com) it. Some are FREE and some Aren't.
