In your opinion, what's a great first car to get?

I'm young and I have a son, so I def. wanna be safe with picking a car. But theirs just so many out there obviously, and I don't even know where to start!
-My question is what do you recommend is great as a first car?(that's safe)
-Any a little on the cheaper side maybe?
-Any websites I can look at?
