layoff" should last? My boyfriend was put on "temporary layoff" status on 12/31/08. He is attempting to collect his profit sharing benefits, and his company has told him that he would have to voluntarily quit in order to get his benefits, however he is afraid that if he voluntarily quits, he will no longer get unemployment.
I'm trying to find if there is a Michigan law governing how long they can keep him in that status. I will call the Unemployment hotline tomorrow to verify this - I believe that if he argued his case, stating that the company had no intentions of rehiring him (and they don't), he should still be able to receive unemployment benefits.
Anyone have any opinions?
