In the photography business, do looks matter?

What I mean is, in allot of work places, such as an airport, there are strict dress codes. You will not get hired if you have lip piercings, ear spacers, sometimes dress codes even prohibit any piercings. There are other aspects of dress codes, obviously, but that's not what my question is about.

I have my ears gauged to about 2 gauge and I would like to eventually become a photographer. I am basically wondering if there is a certain "look" you need to have to be successful, and how things like piercings would affect me.

By the way, not that is matters, but my ears are not gauged bigger than the actual size of my ear.

Nope, not in that business. You are in a creative field, so if you like to express your creativity through your personal style, I think that may even help you. Most likely you will be known for your work itself. You are not joining Corparate America where the company has strict dress codes!
