...the mandated health insurance? Under The Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act every U.S. citizen will be required to purchase health insurance or face penalties. The coverage is to cost up to 8% of our income. Speaking for myself I cannot afford it. Even with a subsidy I cannot afford to pay the portion the law requires me to pay. From a salary of $1600 a month I would have to pay about $120 a month. I live right up to my monthly paycheck and this is for the upkeep of a no-frills lifestyle. There's nothing else I can cut out except maybe food, heat and electricity.
I'd like to hear from others whether or not they'll be able to afford the coverage. If you think it's worth it to sacrifice things in your life why is that so? If you don't want it how will you meet your medical care?
I pay my emergency room bill of $2000 at a rate of $225 combined for the ambulance, ER and doctor. It's hard but it's my responsibility to pay this. It's a struggle but I'll be finished paying by Nov. 2011. I support reform but not in the current form that uses taxpayer money that will go to for-profit corporations.
