Hi,

I'm in the process of shopping for a new touch screen phone. And I am hopping all of you expert people can give some ideas. These are my criterias:

1. capacitive touch screen of 4 inch or bigger

2. at least 8G of internal storage space

3. at least 8G of expansion slot

4. unlocked, but usable on AT&T 3G (850)

5. at least a 5 mg pixel camera with flash

6. at least 1 day of battery life with extensive usage

7. changeable batteries (no iphones)

8. ability to scroll thru a 10 mb pdf file without feeling using a 386 pc with only 16mb of ram

9. decent amount of games

I have tried iphone, it's inability to switch batteries, not enough power to last thru a day, low end camera, and being locked didn't meet up my needs.

I am currently using a Nokia N97, but with a small display, resistive screen, lack of game support on its symbian OS, as well as slow internet speed using AT&T's 3G (don't know about other people, but mine felt like it's on edge or slower), I am ready for an upgrade.

I also went to a T-Mobile store to check out the HTC HD2, and have discovered the touch screen isn't as responsive as the iphone and the web browser doesn't have landscape view, which really hampers surfing the web. (it might be the test model that's having that issue, don't know. if someone else has that model and can surf the web on landscape mode, please let me know)

I thought each android based phones has some form of customized android OS. would installing a general version of the android on it work normally just like putting win xp on any pc?

There is no phone that meets all your criteria.

Closest currently available is the HD2. Other than that, wait and see if the HTC Incredible comes to T-Mobile? Maybe the HTC Desire if it makes it to the US?

The EVO is very similar hardware to the HD2, so the ROM works pretty well. Played with one a customer brought in the other day, and it felt as slick as a native install.

The Nexus1 kinda fits, but it doesn't have the screen size. For that, you'd be better off with a good smartphone and a second device (tablet, laptop, iPad) for your media.

I think you are right about the nexus one being the closest after comparing the specs. the HTC HD2's battery life looks like it's fairly short. I personally have no clue how to "flash" a phone. if I end up choosing the HD2, then not only will I have to pay $850 for it for the ATT version, I'll have to find someone to "flash" it and install the Evo version of the OS as you stated. Not sure how much it will cost me there. I think I'm going to see if I can locate a physical nexus one and compare it with my Nokia N97. So far the android OS and game support on the motorola flip used by 2 of my coworkers has impressed me, unlike the symbian support....

thanks for the pointers.
