Methinks 1970 totally Pawns and Destroys all years! It brought us Black Sabbath's 1st album, & Deep Purple's "In Rock". All other years Fail.
Mealsothinks that 2006 was a Brilliant year for Rock, as that was the year I arrived here at the R&P section of Yahoo Answers. I feel that I have achieved my goal in life with the passing of My infinite (though borrowed) "Mole Wisdom" onto the many loyal subjects within My "Mole Kingdom".

May the force of my "Dark Mole" guide you into realms unknown by Mortal Man.
Long live the Dark Mole!

My favorite two were 1991 and 1976. 1991 had Nirvana's Nevermind, Pearl Jam's Ten, Soundgarden's Badmotorfinger, and such. 1976 had the debuts of punk rock. I also like the years close to 1991 and 1976.

1990,1991,1992,1993,1994,1995. 1990:rust in peace-megadeth, razor's edge-AC/DC. 1991:blood sugar sex magik-rhcp, nevermind-nirvana, badmotorfinger-soundgarden, pearl jam-ten.1992: core-stone temple pilots, alice in chains-dirt, broken-nine inch nails, rage against the machine-ratm, incesticide-nirvana. 1993: in utero-nirvana, siamese dream-smashing pumpkins. 1994:superunknown, the downward spiral-nine inch nails, dookie-green day, purple-stp, diary-sunny day real estate. 1995:mellon collie & infinite sadness-smashing pumpkins, above-mad season, one hot minute-rhcp,

Okay I was born in the 60's so most of these I got into at a much later time.
Late 60's for Cream, The Beatles, some of The Stones
1970 - Black Sabbath - Paranoid
1971 - Led Zeppelin IV, Hot Rocks by the Stones
1973 - Pink Floyd - Dark Side of The Moon, Led Zep - Houses of the Holy
1979 - Pink Floyd - The Wall
1980 - Black Sabbath - Heaven and Hell
Then I was pretty happy through most of the 80's - older bands were getting back together and touring (and I started going to concerts!). Liked a lot of the 90's as well for tours and bands like Soundgarden.

I loved every year from 1991-1997. After 1997 was when three were too many *NSYNC-ish bands for me to really love the years. There were still great bands during those later years, but the boybands put a damper on the general era.

If I had to pick a specific 90s year, though, it would be 1991. I'm a big grunge fan. Plus, it was the year I was born. That automatically makes it supreme.

I think 1976 for sure
