This is taken from a recent post in the hockey section:

""Okay so I know all Canuck fans know that former GM Dave Nonis was fired by owner Francesco Aquilini last year. And we all know this year's team was formed by Nonis and Brian Burke. Nonis brought in players like Kesler, Burrows, Pyatt and of course the most legendary trade in NHL history for Roberto Luongo.Burke also brought in players like the Sedin twins so basically the team was made by the two of them. What I don't get is how new GM Mike Gillis is trying to take the credit for it. He was given the team with a **** load full of money and no commitments - an ideal place to be for a GM. The only good thing Gillis did was NOTHING during the trade deadline because the team was already made. Lets face it: We want Nonis back. He sure knows a h-ell of a lot more than Gillis. Aquilini had no excuse to fire him and sounded like a mumbling idiot at the press conference. And I quote: "We felt a change in direction of this team and the leadership was necessary."....
??? .... What change? Gillis didn't do one thing!
So the bottom line is Nonis got fired for building a team worthy of getting through the playoffs and Gillis got hired to take them there...
Excellent work Aquilini. He really is the village idiot of Vancouver. ""

I just wanted to say I completely agree with this guy. I mean Nonis made the team. Gillis didn't make one trade and is trying to take credit for the team. THANKS NONIS! Now Toronto has both Nonis and Burke and I'm jealous.
Even Gillis said at the trade deadline he did nothing because he felt there was no change needed! wtf??

As for 'badcdn24's' comment, first off, sundin chose to come here. there was no negotiation whatsoever. do your homework before you say something completely irrelevant. And we didn't make the playoffs last year because half of the defensive line was injured and luongo's wife was having birth problems.

Don Cherry said it was the worst firing he's ever seen and I completely agree. Francesco needs to kiss some ass lol. He's ruining the team and needs to stop using his dad's money.

badcdn24 here, if you are going to respond to my comments I'd appreciate if you would post them. Don't worry, I'll do it for you

"First off you say get through the playoffs, they've won one game lets not get ahead of ourselves.

What about the team Nonis assembled last year? They missed the playoffs.

The difference between winning and losing is small, its the small tweaks. Would Nonis have landed Sundin and Demitra or would he have found a way to keep Naslund and Morrison.

Come on Gilles has made changes,

As to the owner being the village idiot, he owns the team- he can do what he wants. If you don't like it stop buying tickets. Who is the idiot the owner or the sucker buying tickets."

To respond to your comments...

You tell me to do my homework on the Sundin deal, how about you do yours. Yeah Sundin chose to come to Vancouver after receiving an offer from the Canucks and their GM. I'm sure some negotiation was involved on the contract.

Anyway my first answer speaks for itself, You don't like Gilles fine but don't say he has done nothing. The are up 3-0 in their series, maybe standing Pat at the deadline was the right thing to do. Flames made a bunch of moves that seem to be not working out.
