In pokemon heartgold is there any need for a electric type after the bird type gym?

I bought it today, and i don't really want an electric type on my team, but i got a mareep for defeating the first gym. afterwards will i need it? because im hoping to swap that for heracross.
oh i have bellsprout for the water and rock type gyms
