What is the essence of good writing? If self indulgence is embarrassing and self-amusement is wasteful; who do you write for? Does a dense style, ostentation or pomposity obscure meaning or arouse suspicion; or does it make you want to dig into the dictionary to discover the hidden message and reread? Is turgidity and bombast, pedantry, strutting and self preening an endearing quality for a poet? Is it just as adorable as the good looking guy on the beach who flexes his muscles for the young girls? Is it possible to be simply subtle and relevant, logical and poetic, without being a bore?
