In Jane Eyre, how does the author criticize society through Moor House and Ferndean?

i thought the settings were just supposed to show change in her character, but then my friend said that Bronte criticizes Victorian England through each setting. i kinda understand the criticism through gateshead hall, lowood, and thornfield, but what about the last two?? is it the topic of men's power over women at that time when she was at Moor house, and how certain people were social outcasts in Ferndean??
