in excel, is there a way to make the last 'letter or number' in a column to copy onto a

new column? for instance:
A1---------->B1
mary.........y
bob...........b
stan .........n
lee............e
.............................
i actually have a number after each name. i would like to automatically get those numbers into the next column while keeping the order the same

A1------------->B1
mary_1.........1
bob_2...........2
stan_1..........1
lee_3............3

i have 2,000 of these to do. please help :)
