In DSLR photography...?

I have just read a couple of reviews on two cameras.

The first being, Nikon D3
And the second, the new D700.

You'll have to excuse my lack of knowledge on this one folks, but could you outline, in layman's terms please, what full frame means, of which both these camera boast are equipped with.

I am not new to photography, but some of the write ups on these formats are just a little to much to absorb.

the sensor is the same size as a 35mm peice of film, non FF cameras have cropped sensors - smaller sensors

the advantages of FF are you get more bang for your buck from wide lenses, less noise is also an advantage,

as pixel numbers increase more manufacturers will start making their cameras with 35mm FF sensors

It means that the sensor size is 24x36mm the same size as a frame of 35mm film.

Most dSLR cameras have smaller, APS sized sensors, approximately 16x24 mm.

The D700 and D3 are Nikon's first FF dSLRs.
