of letting the judge? rule on the objection. I was watching Law and Order and many times a lawyer objects, then the other lawyer says "withdrawn" before the judge rules on the objection. Why?

the lawyer simply wanted to introduce the question to the court, once that was done no matter if the judge says sustained the question often remains in the jury's mind.

the premiss on the show is to put an idea in the ear of the jury knowing there's gonna be an objection, meybe even hoping the objection may be over ruled.
