in computers and electronics what does k stand for?

charcind.. is wrong, lower case k is kilo, and it always means x1000. the x1024 use is not standard. Ki (kibi) indicates x 1024.

k or K is usually used to designate a constant.

K means degrees Kelvin, a unit of temperature.

Small k: nothing specific, possibly a constant.

Capital K: kilo or multiplied by 1,000, e.g. kilowatt, kiloohm, kilovolt.
In computing kilo actually means 1,024, which is 10000000000 in binary, 400 in hexadecimal.
